Due to the significant increase in COVID-19 cases in our community, the Cedar Rapids Public Library returned to Curbside Services only on Monday, November 16, and our buildings will remain closed to the public until further notice. Patrons can access materials safely using our curbside holds pick up process. Find more information on our curbside holds page

Library administration is working with the City of Cedar Rapids and the Library Board of Trustees to assess the situation and determine when it is best to fully reopen.

We are expanding services gradually to work within the framework of our reopening plan.  Due to the recent significant increase in positive cases in our community, the Library returned to Curbside Services only as of November 16, 2020.

Unlike retail stores and restaurants, everything that leaves the library is expected to come back. Additionally, we are a place where people come to browse, learn, connect and gather. In the current state of public health crisis, we know we cannot provide those same services to our community. This presents a unique and critical challenge for libraries. The Library has developed a phased reopening plan that provides much-needed services as it is safe to do so.

The Library is working closely with the City of Cedar Rapids, Library Board of Trustees, and our county health department on our reopening plans. Staff safety, personal protective equipment availability, and health/safety guidelines are all part of the decision making process.  The safety of our staff and patrons is our priority. Please check back regularly for updates.

Yes, we encourage you to browsing the Library catalog and place holds on items that interest you. You will be notified when holds are available for pickup. The Library offers curbside hold pickup by appointment. Once you are notified your holds are available, please visit the appointment page on the website or call 319.261.7323 and staff will assist you.

Library book drops and materials returns are now open at all location, including metro HyVee stores. There is no need to try and clean or sanitize your library materials at home. Items returned to the Library will be quarantined for a brief period of time as a safety precaution.

Book drops are now open at all locations. Our libraries have gone fine free but items should be returned by their due dates. After 30 days, items may be reported missing and you may be charged replacement fees. Please contact us for specific account questions by calling 319.261.READ.

The Library has a variety of digital resources available from anywhere! These include ebooks, audiobooks, music, streaming movies and television, and so much more. Explore our Resources and Services page for access to these services.
